D2x, 300-800 @ 800mm, ISO400, 1/400 @ f5.6, manual exposure, C1 Pro, Noise Ninja.
I've finally managed to replace the body (D1x) lost to the thieves (or baggage handlers as they are officially known) at Chicago O'Hare with a nice new shiny D2x
This is my first effort on the new body and was taken last evening in the dying sunshine. I was attracted to the reflected light on the bird as she rested and preened in the shadows.
Hi John
Glad to hear you have a toy and are putting it to good use,The exposure-detail and colour are very nice as is the evening light and water ripple/reflectionand you have stated its an enviro shot so in that sense it is however would have been great without that branch above its head which kind of dominates the image

Nice enviro shot but i agree with Dave re; branch.....its too dominating in this image.

Nice enviro shot although agree with the comments above.......actually, no I don't agree......I'm getting a little tired of seeing images that all follow "THE RULES". They end up bland and boring and the same old, same old. I've seen enough images where the subject takes up more than 50% of the frame and the BG is just a uniform colour mush. It's about time we got away from theis stereotypical look and tried to be more adventurous like our Eurpoean counterparts are doing. When I first saw last years WPOTY winner I thought it was rubbish, but the more I look at it the more I realise that he did something totally different to the usual drivel we see. Lets see some more rule breaking here.

Hi John
I like the overall image and feel it would benefit from lightening up a little, especially the branch, which I feel would then be less intrusive!

Like David says, a bit lighter. Nice habitat shot.
