Fantastic idea for the long shutter speed. Getting the mist to portray itself really makes this image special. The cataclysm of the falls is pretty darn spectacular, too, along with the color in the sky. Bruce dubs this perfectly as a "spectacle." Must have been a thrill to be there.

Beautiful Douglas! I love the colors and the mist is excellent. Looks like a very cool place to see and you captured it very well.

Another awesome one! What a trip you must have had. Do you have a lot more jewels in the wings?
I love the way the falls enters on the left and flow right, and then the canyon flows back to the left from the right. The mist and color really add to the mood, as does the shutter speed.
Gorgeous. I feel stupid for my comment on your other Iceland shot (that one looked very Oregon-y). I love the slow shutter speed and its effect on the lip of the rim. Sky color is gorgeous also. I've always wanted to take a photo workshop in Iceland, and this is gonna send me shopping again.
One suggestion....worth a shot anyway....You might see how it looks with about 1/3 of the sky removed (just above the little poof of cloud in the middle). It keeps all the color (except the super dark blue top left) and it keeps the focus on the falls.
Rule of thirds-rule of schmirds, I say ;). For me it was more about the falls themselves and the canyon bottom getting lost in the taller aspect ratio. I'm a full for color though, so I get pulled to color more than to lines, making the 3:2 more distracting and busy for me.
I'm partial to the 5:4 myself, but they are both great. What I like about the repost is how my eye gets drawn to the curve of river instead of up and out of the frame above the sky. Thanks for humoring me!! I can't wait to see more of your Iceland photos.

Here is the 5:4 format.
