Wildflower MANIA!!
Sick of Shrine Ridge yet? I was--after one day, the wildflowers were so thick it overpowered my senses. I went up yesterday, hiked the Loveland Pass Loop on the way out (not too many flowers there) Got to Shrine about 5 or so, hiked up the ridge and ran into Glen Randall (whose shot of wildflowers from West Maroon was incidentally an inspiration for this trip) A shower came over, and i told Glen, "we may see a rainbow if the sun gets a bit lower"---and sure enough, a rainbow magically appeared! Then I played with some select focus shots (above) which were inspired by one of Todd's recent posts. Chatted with Larry Johnson on the way down, he was also up shooting Shrine. Looked to me like no clouds for the sunrise, so rather than hang around i headed to Dillon to drink microbrews and play an open mike. Headed for Ute Pass the next morning (today) and took some pics of the Gore Range. Lots of flowers there too, but lots of tall grass too so the comps were tougher. Had a blast! Monsoon is taking a break now, hurry up and catch the blooms before they wither!

Love it Stan! Hurts my eyes in a good way. I love the Colorado flowers but here I seldom ever see another photographer but then the flowers are not as great either. It just takes alot more looking. Either way a very pleasant shot.

Great Collection Stan! Rod Chandler, Dave Bartlett and I also ran into Glen Randall yesterday on his way down. Can't get enough of Shrine- 3 times this week!

Wow!!
You got some excellent and very creative images from that trek! What a banner year, eh?

Sadly, it appears to be a banner year for beetles, too.
That's the worst I've ever seen documented. :frown:

Sick in a great way for your flower shots :toast: What a glorious year for flowers! Sick in a horrible way for the pine beetle destruction.

Stan, these are awesome!!! I think my favorites are the burnt stump and both rainbow shots. You just keep getting better and better and better.

Really great stuff, Stan! I think your shot posted here is my fave, as it is a bit of a departure for you and I enjoy seeing you extend your range. The rainbow shots are cool, too. I'm amazed how much snow is in the cross couloir on Mt. of the Holy Cross. In August? Are you kidding me??? Too bad Tigiwon Road is closed, it'd still be a great shot from Notch Mountain.

Great stuff! I was debating between Shrine and Boreas on the 4th and decided the weather looked more promising for Boreas...doh! My forecasting skills need some work...made it to Shrine on the 5th with boring light but at least got some close-ups.

Great set, Stan! I was there on Thurs PM and got a rainbow also, but I didn't find the concentration of flowers you found. What I found was good but not the great stuff you got, way to go! :toast:

You might want to re-title your web page WildflowerMadness rather than WildfloweMadness

Nice series Stan. I agree with Todd that your shot here is the choice image from the group, followed I think by the image with Holy Cross in the background.

Retinal overload! This is the favorite of the bunch, along with Mt Holy Cross.
