After basking in the beauty of ILB, we decided to proceed up the trail to Island Lake. As we made our way up the trail the weather improved vastly and we were greeted again by lovely dappled light. This first shot is the outlet stream from Ice Lake, swollen by the previous days rain. It proved an unexpected challenge to find a good spot to cross.

As the weather improved and we gained elevation, looking back toward Ice Lake was stunningly beautiful.

Island lake might be one of the most beautiful in the state.

The changing light was something to watch.

After about 30 minutes, the weather started moving in again.
A great series Paul. That location is also one of my favorite around. I especially like your Island Lake shots! Great light and the wildflowers are a bonus.
Paul, I like #5 the best. Considering the beauty of Island Lake; it's a tough shoot in my opinion. You found the spot though, keeping the Island close to eye level.
I was there just 5 days ago and "yes" if you're in to yellow and orange wildflowers, there's not a better place to be this year. The slope up to V2 (you were on it) is the most insane display of tundra color I've seen.

You really did justice to this place, Paul. #5 is my favorite for the perspective, dappled light and those flowers (!) in the foreground.
Well done!

What a gorgeous spot! I'll have to add it to my "must visit" list! Great series of photos...you really did justice to the place.

Great series! I especially like the last one with the spotlight effect on the island. What a place!

I really like the spotlight effect on the island in that last one, but my fave might just be the one looking back towards ILB. Great series, Paul.

Beautiful images Paul! I like #'s 1, 2, and 4. 4 is my fave of the last three because the island an peak are spotlit, but the changes in light seem more graduated than abrupt and that lets my eye flow through more freely.

Thanks, everyone -- I was really trying to sort out which shot of the lake I liked, since at this point I've lost all perspective. Kane, I was tempted to go further up, but the flowers really grabbed my attention. I think there are definitely some interesting shots to be had higher up as well.

I like the last one. Those are really cool. I've never seen that spot before.
