The topic line sums it up. Recently my monitor has been acting up, apparently the power going out on occasion. I've had it about ten years, and it's been a fine monitor, NEC Multisync 2180UX, which was VERY expensive but top grade quality.
This query is sort of two-fold. The NEC produces amazing color, clarity, etc., but I've been wondering that because of the vibrant color and such, maybe I'm seeing my images through "rose colored glasses."
Bottom line is that I'm shopping for a new one, hopefully not as expensive (over $1,000 US for the NEC way back when), and one that can produce realistic color and detail rendition. The NEC is 4x3 aspect but I'll probably go with the wide aspect. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The NEC P221W that Brad linked to is an excellent wide-gamut monitor. With the SpectraView II software and NEC branded iOne colorimeter, it is a real bargain. I've had mine for some months and have had no issues.

Dell's very popular 24" U2410 has had great reviews, offering an IPS panel and 110% RGB color gamut. It lists for $599, but is currently on sale for $479. It also offers a 3-year zero-dead-pixel guarantee and AdobeRGB color gamut. Prices for these monitors are way better than just 3 years ago! JSYK, Dell just announced the U2412M which lists for $399 and features IPS panels, but it is sRGB only, does not support AdobeRGB.

If you want to save a little money on the NEC P221W. You can buy a reconditioned one from NEC for 199.00. I purchased a reconditioned monitor from them over a year ago and no problems with it so far.The calibration software and puck you will have to buy separately
