Hi folks!

I have been to Oregon a few times, but in the spring. I am planning a trip for mid/late October and have some questions. Is the gorge worth the trouble at that time of year? When does the fall color happen in that area? I understand that the weather could change at any time, but is there much chance of snow at that time? I know it's an iconic shot, but I'd like a shot at Elowah Falls with some color on the maples if possible.

I think we'll spend a couple few days on the coast(Bandon area). Then up to Hood River, I assume that's the best spot for trips into the gorge. And then to Bend for a couple of days. I'm up for whatever happens with the weather, but my wife might not be into it as much  Anyway, If there's something about the weather at that time of year that I don't know, any info would be appreciated.

Chris,

Fall colors didn't come to the Gorge until the 2nd week of November last year. It certainly can come at the end of October though. We're having some crazy weather up here. The classic Elowah falls shot is changed forever. There are two massive log jams that clutter the classic comp. You can get in the water and get something a little different, but you definitely lose a lot of color that way. It's a real bummer. That is the spot in the Gorge. I wouldn't recommend another in the fall. Starvation Creek gets some amazing color but it's tough to pull out a killer comp.

Have a great trip!!!!

The three photos of Elowah in this gallery were taken October 30th last year.

I had not heard about the log jams, major bummer :frown: .

While Elowah is hard to beat, many of the other falls are worth chasing if we've had rain (so they have some flow). Metlako, Wahclella, Multnomah, Ponytail, Triple, etc. have potential for fall color.
