Cardinal Moon
A very enjoyable weekend was had and the weather gods provided. I was going to meet up with John M on Saturday to go to Marble Canyon. I stopped on the way north Friday evening to catch the moon rising above the cardinals.

#1 A wider view of cardinal row with the small moon visible through the gap. Single exposure.

#2 A blend of two images, one for an exposure of the moon. Nikon 70-300 @ 250mm.

Like number two a lot. Perhaps a darker sky would make give the moon more impact.

Another vote for 2. Took a sec to find in number 1 and might not have known if you hadn't said something.

I kind of prefer #1 since it's a somewhat less standard composition. Also, in #2, I immediately knew the moon was pasted in, as there's sort of an unnatural dark border around part of the moon and the moon should probably be lighter or the rest of the scene darker, In the exposure of the moon, you might try pasting the moon and a little part of the sky that is around the moon into the other shot and then try to blend that sky in with the rest of the sky, rather than try to paste only the moon.

Grant, Thank you for the suggestion. Here is a redo of #1 with a little different crop.

Moon looks much better to me. I think I prefer the original crop but both work well.

I like the light, clouds and subject in #1. Nicely composed, too.
#2 is excellent! This moon wasn't 'pasted in', but is instead a blend of two images, Grant.
The rework looks much better, Doug. Losing the slight yellowish cast on the moon was a plus. I like the new crop, but think that cropping down from the sky would make this less 'skinny' looking. Well captured, sir!

Doug, another vote for #2 and the repost looks even better! I really like the comp on this. Might also be interested in seeing the sky a little darker, but not sure if I would like it better unless I saw them side by side.

Repost on #2 gets my vote. Nice work!

Pasted in was probably a poor choice of words by me. I've shot the full moon at that same spot before, so I didn't mean to imply that the moon wasn't there when this was shot. I just wanted to say that the initial processing didn't look natural to me.
