Been reading about printer options when I have the time. When I'm reading to buy I want to have research already done.
Anyway was liking the Epson 3880 but now I see that most retailers are offering the 4900 at a $1000 discount which puts it in the same price range as it's smaller cousin. They both will take 17" wide paper
and are both excellent printers if you believe the reviews. I did read one extremely poor review on Amazon though. Has anyone heard of any consistent problems with the 4900? Are they unloading the lemons or just making way for a newer model?

Hi Bruce. I can't answer your question because I have never used either of those printers but I have an older R2400 and it has been excellent. However I remember when I was researching it I ran into a couple of negative reviews. A lot of people don't read the directions or install the software correctly and or have incompatible drivers or whatever and it causes problems which they blame on the printer. Whichever you buy go to Epson's website and make sure you have the correct driver for your OS. If you do have mechanical problems (can happen on all machines) Epson will take care of it.
