The software with the camera opens RAW
You don't need raw with the D7000 anyway. Nothing wrong with JPEG large /fine which is not hard with a camera like this. Get your exposue near enough right and no problems.

John

CS3 or PS3??

Not sure of the chronology of the three elements, but it sounds like the D7000 is newer than CS3 in which case it probably doesn't have the D7000 Raw file conversion compatability. Check the CS website for RAW software updates available, If none available for CS3 then the PS DNG converter software should provide a temprary solution, its a bit of a faff but works until the CS3 software can be upgraded - convert RAW files to .DNG then open .DNG files in CS3

Hi Keith, I had the same problem with CS3 when I brought my Nikon D3S; the raw files would just not open. I brought Capture NX 2 to open the Raw files, then do a little work on them there then save as a Tiff then open up in CS3.Hope that helps  :wavey:

Keith, Photoshop relies on Camera RAW plugins to 'read' raw files - the latest incarnations of Camera RAW do not function with CS3, only CS4 or 5.

Either upgrade to CS4/5 and install the latest version of Camera RAW (v6.3) or better still get hold of Lightroom 3 - you can import and catalogue your RAWS, process, then move images from there to CS3 no problem.

You have another course of action - convert your Nikon NEF raw to DNG - which costs you nothing for the utility from Adobe. Not a course of action I'd wholeheartedly recommend, but it's about 1 billion percent BETTER than the 'shooting jpeg' option.

Hi Keith if you don't want to spend any money now, you can use the editor in view nx which is ok as you can do quite a bit, then save it to a tiff for working on in CS3, I use it when I want to batch a lot of images to Jpeg with D-lighting and auto CA correction.
