Another from the NRGC
Here's another shot from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon the 1st week of August. John, I promise to post this one in the Landscape gallery! What do ya think? Is the sky too dark? We had great luck during our week stay at the canyon with rainbows 3 nights and the rainstorm on one.

This is a single exposure, no HDR going on here. ISO 800 makes the details a little soft but I think it holds up pretty good.

C&C Welcome!

You gotta be 'bleepin' kidding me! Incredible! I've been looking at the weather when to get down there and this makes me want to get there right now.

Great comp, great color, and great mood. I do think the image is a notch too underexposed. Your foreground, especially the tree on the right and the corners could use a bump up in brightness IMO.

Great conditions and another killer shot again. I like the contrast in the clouds. I would be inclined to crop the bottom so the white caprock in the center is gone, and clone out the bare tree branches in the lrc. Overall it looks just a little dark to me.

Kill shot, Phil! I love the dark mood and color!

Phillip, I envy your opportunity to be there at that time. Great capture.

Love it!! Awesome mood you captured here, would not change a thing. :toast:

Whoa, double rainbow! :) I think the slight underexposure here works as it makes for a darker mood which is what the storm is creating. Very nice, Phillip.

Ridiculously good -- nice work! :toast:

Really incredible shot! I wish some of the blues and purples inherent in a rainbow were visible, but I assume they were eclipsed by the amazing light show of oranges, yellows and reds.

Awesome and incredible shot!

Thanks for the comments!

Todd is exactly right about the rainbow. Red, orange, yellow, and a hint of green were all that was visible due to the red/orange glow of the rain and clouds. It was difficult to get a good position to shoot from due to all the tourists and the limited space at this overlook. I was continually dodging heads and several people walked right in front of me. I was also pretty peeved when I realized I was still at ISO 800 from shooting wildflowers earlier in the day! I just got caught up in the moment and forgot about the ISO! Oh well. Live and learn.

Like suggested, just a wee bit of work on bringing up the exposure, but a killer image! I would be tempted to lose the rock in the foregroun.
