I had about all the 112 degree days I could stand here in Fort Smith, so I headed west to Colorado for a few days of heat relief. I got up early to catch sunrise on Thursday August 11th and it was 36 degrees on Boreas Pass Road, a welcome relief from the heat! I Even had to wear my winter coat!
Here are a couple of shots from the trip. The first one is a three shot blend for focus of an incredible field of wildflowers just below Lake Emma, near Alma Colorado. Most years you would expect the wildflowers to be past peak, but the large snowpack and recent month long monsoon helped them out. Shot number two is a detail taken at the runout of Lake Emma, I just liked the different green patterns.

I'm jealous... Good for you being able to escape the heat to Colorado. The shots on your site of the rivers and mountains make me want to pack up and leave the prairie for the mountains. I particulary like the "Window on the World" and Moon shot . Very well composed and executed.

What Merle said ... I'm jealous! From everything I've heard and seen it's been a banner year for wildflowers in the CO mountains. Nice images, thanks for sharing.

Great shots Tom. The rising moon is exceptional.
I missed my annual trip due to a slight bike mishap. Hoping to get out there in the fall.
Thanks,
Rod

Thanks for making us all envious, Tom . I like the two you posted here but also Boreas Pass and the classic Mayflower Gulch.
It looks like it would have been a great year to escape our heat and enjoy the high country wildflowers. I had plans to spend most of July near Woodland Park but they fell through at the last minute.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys for all the nice comments. It was truly great to escape the heat for a few days and take a few pics. I am hoping the drought in our area does not ruin the fall colors. I am so looking forward to the cooler fall weather!
