Spent the last four days at the Grand Canyon and then around Page(HOT ). The monsoon wasn't in full force as Senor Noll had, but it was purcolating some. On the last night I drove out to Stud Horse area with some very loose directions. I wasn't too happy with the session I had then on the walk back to my truck I decided to shoot a storm to the east and this is one of the images. C&C if you want and thanks for looking!
Great clouds, Jeff, and while the shrub might not be the ideal foreground, its placement works to lead my eye right to the lightning bolt. My two suggestions would be a little dodging of the foreground and to consider a 4x5 crop, as the top section of sky doesn't seem to add much.

Thanks for the comment Jackson. Upon further review I don't think I was at the correct spot of the Stud Horse Point hoodoos, but I was in the vicinity. Oh well, I guess I'll have to get back down there, which I would eventually anyway.
I like Jackson's suggestion on the dodging and could even see how a crop puts more emphasis on the lightning bolt. What I really like about your comp is I see an "x" created by shadows and light compelling my eye to the bolt and horizon. Very well done!

Here's a repost. Better me thinks. That's what I get for processing after 7 mile morning hike followed by a 6 hour drive home.

The repost is the difference between night and day. The lighting that Morris referred to is much more present. I have to agree that a crop about an inch below the top of the whiter cloud on the left border makes a big difference. I sure like this one!
Yep, this is pretty sweet. I actually like it uncropped as the sky is pretty sweet. The 2nd version is the better processed of the two. Really a cool image, Jeff.

I like the second one much better with the dodging, but now the whiteness in the sky is taking away a bit from the lightening. Can you subdue the white sky and maybe crop a bit from the top to see what you get?
