Sorry havent been participating much in the forum--been real busy! Hope to catch up soon. Here's a quick grab coming home from the St Fair tonight, i missed the 2 or 3 best bolts while driving--this was the last good one before it started raining. (10 s exposure looking east from Pinon area)
wow, that's fantastic Stan. That's the great thing about lightning, you never really know what it's gonna do. Hard to believe there were 2 or 3 better bolts then this. I think you should consider cloning out the corner of the house on the right and the power lines and the power pole.

ZZZZAP! POW! This is awesome, Stan! I was gonna go out last night, but the race and the Broncos game kept me home. Tonight I hope to get something this awesome.

SWEET!! Stan, I can't imagine the collection of lightening shots you have by now. Great job! If I could just get past the nervousness of being out in a lightening storm. I might try this one day....I would only hope for even half the success you have with it.

We took a hit on or very near my house yesterday afternoon while I was in the garage. Scared the hell out of me. This image almost makes me feel it all over again.

The bluish dendrites splitting to the left of the image are cool.
Question, as I have not tried to get any lightning shots yet. If one were to use a ND8 filter to increase exposure times and chances of capturing the lightning, would the lightning be exposed enough? Or would it be better to not use the filter and just do more exposures of shorter duration to get a bolt?

Wow, what a beautiful forked design, I don't think I've ever seen that pattern before. Very sweeeeeet!
Thanks folks!
Doug--i cant say ive ever tried it (an ND) but im 99% sure the answer is that you're better off without it--the lightning is of such short duration that an ND would just hurt the exposure you get from the bolt.
