I want to get out and do some fall colors. Should be able to break away most weekends in September. Need to stay within 2 hours of Denver incase I get a "the babies are coming call". I've driven by the Colorado Trail TH on Kenosha pass many times but never scouted the area. Thinking about heading up there this weekend.
Any recomendations around there or other good oportunities within 1 to 2 hour radius you would recommend in Sep? Thanks in advance.

It's still a bit early for fall colors just yet, but I had some good luck at Kenosha a few years back in the 3rd week of September I believe. I found that it was better for more intimate forest scenes than grand landscape shots. As for other areas, there are some nice stands of aspen along the Peak to Peak highway north from Nederland that I have always wanted to explore (used to drive past them all the time when I worked for the Forest Service). Again, you're looking at a few more weeks probably before they begin to change.

Thanks Chris. A few more weeks was about the time frame I had in mind. THis weekend was mostly scouting. I don't think I've ever done the Peak to Peak so I'll check that too. Thanks for the response.

Not sure how the road is, but there are some nice areas below Guanella Pass as well...

Gunaella Pass has had road construction all summer but they keep it open on the weekends. RMNP is right on the outer edge of the 2-hour limit.
"Babies" huh? Congratulations! My babies were born in June so this fall will be my first opportunity to really get out again and I'll probably be sticking pretty close to home still too. For that reason I've been thinking along the same lines of where to go that's relatively close. I've had some luck before up Golden Gate Canyon and on Guanella Pass before. I haven't been up Guanella since they started construction so I don't know what that's done to the views.

Thanks for the heads up about the road to Guanella.
Matt,
I remember you saying something about that. I find it heartening that you still are able to get away. I might have to email you for some tips.
