!!Post up to three photos taken in the Pacific Northwest between June 21, 2011 and September 21, 2011 in this thread to enter our first ever PNWNP Seasonal Photo Contest!!
Some of you may have noticed changes in the appearance of our forum. Chief among these changes is our new photo banner at the top of the forum page. If you click on any of the photos in the banner, or on the Cover Shot link above the photos, you will be taken to our updated splash page. The new banner and the updated splash page were changes Catherine and I, with all the logistical work done by David Bostock (a huge thanks David!), made to prepare for our new contest.
While the banner and splash page currently show photos from your current and past moderators, each season we will have a contest for photos to replace these. The splash page will feature the most recent winner, and the banner will show the most recent winner and winners from the past three contests (one from each of the four seasons).
Please keep in mind these guidelines:
-Any NPN member may enter up to three images.
-The image must be taken in the Pacific Northwest in the current season (for example, see the dates above for the current contest).
-Submitted images must follow the NPN Posting Guidelines and fit within one of the Gallery Guidelines for the Avian, Environmental Photojournalism, Flora, Landscape, Macro/Close-up, Man & Nature, Photo Art, and Wildlife Galleries.
-One winning image and two honorable mentions will be chosen by the PNWNP moderators, and thus PNWNP moderators are not allowed to enter images.
-The winning image will be featured on the Cover Shot for the following season and in the forum banner for four seasons.
This first ever contest ends on the 21st, so hit the reply button and add your entries!
Would you define "Pacific Northwest" for the purposes of this contest? It can be narrow or broad depending on a person's interpretation.

Good question Ryan! I know that in other forums it is well defined, but I'm not sure I've ever seen that done for the PNW. Let me check with Catherine and we'll post some guidelines.

Googling the PNW there are a lot of definitions. It seems that a common definition is OR and WA, +/- southwest BC. I'm not sure what the original PNWNP was meant to include, but Idaho is grouped with the RMNP and there is now a CANNP.
The bottom line is that to avoid overlap with the other groups, Catherine and I agreed that we will define the PNWNP as OR and Wa for the purposes of the contests. It's not a big deal, so if you are shooting in Idaho or Canada and a distant bit of OR or WA is in the photo it's fine to enter. We're not that worried about where the oceanic boundaries are either.
Ryan, hopefully you were able to get some shots on your trip that fit.
To all, remember that the photo doesn't have to be this year, just taken in summer.

Here is a favorite of mine, a Dahlia shot a few weeks ago.

Here is my favorite image from this summer.
"Stands in Silence" Summit, Mt Hood. As the sun rises behind Mt Hood, a perfect pyramid shaped shadow is cast upon the surrounding landscape.

(still reside in Oregon 1/3 of the time, so I guess I'm a pseudo-member)
(Too bad we can only post small sizes here)
