The cross in the sun
Hey folks. I shot this yesterday afternoon in the gorgre up past Rowena. When I went home and processed this, A cross appeared. I used the lightness channel in Lab color with the S&H tool and some burning. Me not being a religious man, it kind of freaked me out it being the day before Easter. I swear there was no other manipulation. They showed this image on the T.V News twice this morning.

Well I am a religious man and it is still an awesome phenomenon. Pretty humbling really.

I know Erik would not brag about it, so I will... this image has already sold (hopefully a 20x30 framed) to someone I shared this with after Easter services, and a few more are waiting to see the print before they make their decision.
This would sell as a manipulated image, but being that it was not a manually generated creation...it has FAR greater worth.

Pretty amazing and I stand alongside Jim Jirka as being a religious person. The fact that this is unmanipulated is scary, eh?

Erik, Rick, are you starting to feel some of that "old time religion" yet?

My explanation is that it's refaction. I shot this in a heavy rainshower with the wind blowing in my face. I took about 5 shots of the scene hand held because my lens kept getting covered with rain drops. I had to keep drying off my lens and my guess is that a streak of water or a raindrop landed on my lens where the sun was trying to peak through the clouds. BTW used a ND grad on this.

Mike, I removed my original comment because I got the feeling that my joking manner offended some folks. I was probably wrong, but that was the feeling I got at the time.

I have a pretty heavily religious past and still hold certain beleifs, but I don't take this kind of thing seriously. My opinion is the same as Erik's, it's just the effects of lens optics, and therefore it is technically human generated. But that's just MHO...

Well, regardless of the cause for the effect, the result holds loads of symbolism and for that reason alone this image would be dear for many...

Geoff,
I totally agree. Especially after reading the numerous emails I've received in reference to this image.

Curtis, I knew at least a couple were missing... including mine, so that's why I asked. I know mine was up there at one point, but the next time I looked everything was gone from my message on down. No big deal, I was just wondering.
