Close Encounters
#1

I found these two moths a few feet from my campsite at the Blue Lakes trailhead. Although my intention was to get an early start, I just couldn't pass up this marco opportunity. A cold, calm morning with lots of dew - just perfect!

Canon 100mm Macro, f8, 1/50 sec, ISO 800
tripod - manual focus - 8 shots, focus stacked with Helicon Focus

Even with 8 shots, I didn't get the tip of the left wing completely sharp!

Bill, I really like #2. The colors and DoF are great.

Wow, those are phenomenal, Bill! Great color in all of them and the comps are just as good. :toast:

I can only echo Morris' statement. #2 is a fine art macro if there was any, and #1 is really interesting. Love the color contrast in that one!
Speaking of interesting, eight images stacked for DOF. Sure works for me!

Really like the set of these Bill, but #2 is tops for me! Love the detail, color but in that one the position of your subject is just superb!

These are just awesome, Bill! I've got a shot vaguely similar to #1 hanging out in my archives, but you version here looks like what I was actually hoping to achieve with it. #2 is probably the most artistically perfect here, but I have a little more affection for the details like the water droplets and antennae in #1. And #3 is no slouch either.
