Hawk-ish ID
Hi all, my friend had this hanging out in their black walnut tree yesterday, and she asked me if I thought it was a juvenile Northern Goshawk... after researching a bit on the Cornell site, etc. I said I don't think so. And while I have some guesses as to what it may be, that's all they would be. So your help is much appreciated, taken here in Northeastern PA.

Looks like a juvenile red-tailed hawk

Luke's got it. Note the fine dark bands on the upper tail and the "V" of white feathers on the back very characteristic of red-tails.

Bingo! Juvie red-tailed! The tail banding is extremely variable. This one is darkly subtle.
Nice crop of walnuts!

The juvenile Red-tailed have it! a bit darker tail than we usually see here but hey he's a Yank.

Hope the flooding is staying well away from you-all.
