Sept 13 is to be the best evening for the Mitten Shadow at Monument Valley. Is anyone plannning on being there? I should be around starting Sunday for the moon rising over the mitten. If you see a German Wirehair Pointer riding shotgun in a pewter-colored Chevy PU with fiberglass shell, feel free to give a holler.

You're a German Wirehair Pointer? Can't wait to meet you at the next shindig!

Man, I wish I could be there.

I'm planning on being there.
I'm doing a tour of the Square Tower House in Mesa Verde in the morning, and then Monument Valley later in the day.
I'll be in a blue Jeep Liberty with a "Life is Good" tire cover on the back and Colorado "Italian American" license plates. My wife should be with me, too.

"You're a German Wirehair Pointer?"
Todd, only when I haven't shaved in a while

Bob, hope to meet you and your wife Tuesday.

I was hoping to make it but all of the hotels in the area are booked.

I can only assume if the hotels are booked the campground will be full as well.

Martin, the "campground" across from the View is basically a dirt lot without hookups or water. Always seems to be space. I do not know about available spaces at Gouldings.

I was supposed to be on a 3 day motorcycle trip on this date but that fell through. Might swing down to Monument Valley for this shadow thang.

Doug is right, Martin. I've never seen that "campground" full nor even close. That just happens to be a prime place to shoot the shadow, although if you want to take the moonrise on Sept. 11 or 12 in account, then TPE is your friend.

I appreciate the info on the "campground". I may head up and see, with a full moon the day before I am sure the trip will be worth it.

Tuesday, eh? Hmmmmm, I'll be in Sedona around then but we'll be down to 1 vehicle by then. I'd like to be there but I'm pretty sure my wife wouldn't like to be stuck in the hotel for 24 hours with no transportation. Oh well, maybe next time.

Sigh...
Tuesday started out VERY promising, and ended up disappointing.
Was lucky enough to join a tour down to the Square Tower ruins in Mesa Verde. VERY neat!
Went to Spruce Tree House ruins and got some nice pictures inside the Kiva.
Drove 2.5 hours to Monument Valley, watching the sky the whole time. It looked like conditions were gonna be great. Got some pictures of the shadow of the left mitten marching across the desert floor to the right mitten, and then...CLOUDS!
Clouds on the western horizon blocked the sun, so no shadow last night.
Guess I'll have to try again in six months or so. :frown:

Bob, I was looking at radar last night and thought that you may have had a chance before the clouds moved in.

Doug, I literally needed only 20 minutes more of light, but...
