Does any one know if you can use an external monitor while shooting with the Nikon cameras. If so which models. Thanks for any help. Pete

Not sure what you're asking Pete. Do you want to see your image on a monitor immediately after the shot? I'm using LR3 to do just that in a "studio" environment. My Nikon camera is tethered to my laptop and images show up in LR as I shoot.

Reno, What I would like to do is have a small monitor I can view to compose and focus my shots while holding my camera in difficult positions. I have seen this used on the Canon cameras but can not seem to find any reference in Nikon. Thanks, Pete

This is also being done with Ipads although I do not know any details. A friend said he saw it at a workshop he attended.

I asked the same question in a earlier post and got some great responses. the monitors I was interested in were the Marshal 5 inch and a Sony version. They're made for shooting video but according to my research they provide all the live view functions you see on your camera's LCD with the convenience of being able to view at odd angles or even mounting on an articulating arm if you buy the accessory. I haven't got mine yet but when I upgrade camera bodies I will. Check out my post in the digital imaging forum dated 6-29-11

Thanks for the great replies. Bruce I read your earlier post on this subject and it was the Marshal 5 inch I had in mind. I did not make my post clear to start with. Sorry about that. I could not find any reference in my manual for the D7000 andt the Nikon web site is about usless sometimes. I tried connecting to my computer with the USB cable, but could only get the post capture pictures to come in. I will have to try something with the HDMI connection and see if I can get a live capture mode. And thanks to Paul D for his initial answere to your post.
