I'm getting tired of having boxes and bags with camera equipment stored all over the house and am looking for a compact storage solution.

How do you store all your equipment? Know of any chests, cabinets etc. that can store around 10 cameras with lenses and various accessories?

We bought a large gun safe, but if you're willing to do with a little less security metal supply cabinets or horizontal file cabinets from the office supply work really well, too, for a lot less money.

I used stackable plastic drawers, which are cheap. However, it's not exactly neat inside those drawers, and the drawer laden with bodies and lenses is under a little strain. But it does work and keeps stuff off the floor.

Ha! Here is where it pays to be a minimalist! I don't own anything that I can't carry in a single backpack. Most of my equipment lives in a Mountain Gear Parallax backpack, but I use a smaller Lowe Alpine for more typical trips, that will carry everything but a third lens. This won't help you much, of course.

Hanks use of a secure cabinet is a good one and should be considered. My house was broken into not too long ago and only the fact that it was kids more interested in the Wii console saved me from losing all my gear, which was in the pack in the same room! I still use the pack, but it is hidden and out of site when not being used. A good, strong box offers real physical protection in extreme situations as well. Definitely something to consider.

When I'm not out, and the gear is out of the truck, I store mine in my gun safe. Yes, they're heavy and expensive, but it is secure and fire rated as well. I've also got a small fire rated office safe w/home papers, ins., & back up drives and discs on the floor of the gun safe.

Hi Svein, I had exactly the same problem until few weeks ago. I was looking for a wooden cabinet with a proper doors. I check all furniture stores in Perth, no nothing I could find. Some places offered me a custom made. And that would cost me about $2000. Or I could buy $120.00 cheap flimsy office cabinet. I spent about 3 months checking around (we don't have much variety here in Perth). Finally, I found on Gumtree someone is selling here furniture. She had wonderful cabinets that she had bought them in Hong Kong. There I found the cabinet I wanted. It is about 160H, 90W and 45D. The doors are hand curved. And more importantly my wife like it very much!!!!
