Hi all,

Can anybody recommend a CS5 noise reduction plugin for the Mac that will work in 64bit mode? I've been recommended Imagenomic Noiseware Professional, but its only compatible with 32bit mode at the moment... I find 32bit mode unusable with the RAW images coming off my 7D.

Thanks,

Paul.

What do you mean by unusable? With large, multi-layered files in 32-bit mode (<4Gb of RAM) you will need to flatten the file and save it as a separate entity if you want to preserve the various processing steps that you've performed on the image. At least that's what I found in Win XP 32-bit.

Hi Phil,

I find that the Mac consumes all available ram and starts to use swap, it virtually crawls to a halt. This is with only one additional layer being worked on. I've bought more ram (12GB) and switched to 64bit and that has cured it. I tried all kinds of tweaks to the system in 32bit, but more ram and switching to 64bit was the only solution I could find.

Thanks,

Paul.

Try Nik Define (30-day free trial). Nik filters are all supposed to be 64-bit compatible (whatever that means). I use Define sometimes when the files exhibit a lot of noise, but for most purposes I find that the noise reduction in Imagegnomic provides results that are more natural.

Thanks Phil, I'll give it a try.
