Labeling Photographs

Hi,

I have been labeling my work to include the name and copyright. I used Avery labels and placed them on the back bottom center of the photograph. However, I've noticed after time, the label causes a crease or indention in the photograph.

What is another way to label the photograph? Ideas?

Thank you,
Allen :jump:

I was hoping someone else would tackle this, but here goes. Stop sticking labels on your photos. They will damage them. The adhesive on these labels have chemicals that turn yellow over time. These also migrate into mats and photo papers. There are lignins in the labels themselves which do roughly the same thing. When you print, just leave some space on the paper on one of the margins. You can write in this area with acid-free, archival ink. Better yet, with most printers, you can just print it out. If you are using older traditional printing methods though, you may have to go to an art store and buy a pen.

Thank you for taking the time to answer. Yes, I stopped using the labels.

I am actually using a lab to print my work- don't have the room for my own printer yet.

So, I can use an archival pen to put info. on the back of the print? Thanks.

I have heard of people doing that, but I have never tried it myself.

A friend showed me a real head-slapper: Anyone who is doing their own printing has the solution right at their fingertips. Use your printer to add the label on the back side before printing the photo on the front. You have to keep the printer bed and rollers clean, but it's easy and looks very professional.

Allen if you are now using a lab they can also print on the back of your image your copy right and a do not reproduce professional photo, also your name and web site. It is pretty standard for most labs to include this. Hope that helps

Hank-

Thank you- I don't print much at home- but I'll keep that in mind for future.
