From yesterday morning in RMNP. Snow, rain and wind made for a cold and wet morning. Notchtop was the subject we had in mind, but unfortunately the thick cloud cover had swallowed up the peak entirely. Some good light in the direction of sunrise led to a small tarn. The light faded quickly before I could bring out my camera, but then it came back suddenly in a small break in the thick clouds. I was extremely rushed for the comp, and only managed to get off a few shots before the light faded and the cloud cover set back in.

5dmk2, 16-35, 3 image hand blend.

Gorgeous, Koveh! It looks slightly tilted clockwise, judging by the dominant tree and its reflection. But what color!

Ha! surprised we didnt run into you--Kane and I were going to do Chasm, but we changed out mind and hit Helene instead. Once the snow and rain hit, it looked pretty hopeless--fortunately we made it to a ridge above the lake in time for the miracle. This is great! Wait til you see Kane's winner

God, Koveh, that is fantastic. Gorgeous light, and a really nice composition with the line of light on the cloud mimicking the horizon and the cluster of pine trees. I assume you had to move to get that, so that's a great visualization. Or were you looking for the tree shadows to get into the gap in the rocks?

Thanks folks!

Todd, that particular tree is actually tilted and not the entire image. I decided to keep the image and rest of the trees straight, because it seemed to throw the comp off and show the tilt in other trees if I tried to correct it.

Stan/Kane, sounds like you guys suffered a bit with the rest of us. Hope you got something worth while.

Mark, thanks. My goal with the comp was to not cut off the reflection of the trees, which meant having to place them between the foreground rocks. Everything else just felt right and fell into place. =)

Pretty damn amazing, Koveh. Especially considering your rush to find a composition. Killer conditions and gorgeous light.

Another great image, Koveh. I love the colors and you did a great job finding a nice composition in a hurry.

Well, for a rushed comp this is damn good, in fact for a non rushed comp this is damn good. All of your time in the field prepares you for situations like this when time is of the essence and you have to go into automatic-overdrive to get a comp.

No wonder the rest of your work lately has been so fantastic if this is a rush job!
You are elbowing your way in with the big boys in the Landscape forum. You have a very promising future in photographic arts! :toast:

Amazing light and a beautiful composition. Everything came together for you in this one moment.

Nice shot Koveh, I absolutely love the composition!

Koveh, that is one of the best images I've seen in a long time. My first thought when I saw it was, "This should be printed up and sold as 24x36 poster art." Outstanding! :toast:

For being rushed, this is excellent.

Yeah, what Brian said. Almost glad you didn't make it to your destination!
I wonder if haste helps spark the creativity in us. If so, this is a prime example. Just a stellar composition, light and colors here, Koveh.

What a great image. What a great save. Portfolio stuff. Certainly not minimizing this shot compared to the potential of where you are set up to shoot. That's something I noticed you are very good at, saving the day. Great color and excellend blend Koveh.

BTW, ask Stan, I soon as he switched the forecast to a measely 20% chance to get a shot, we decided that fri night to do a Lake Helene area shot. I said" I need to let Koveh know we're going to be there." But guess what? I don't have your email on my phone!!! A pisser I thought. In retrospect, we got different shots. Sometimes plans are better left untouched right?
