So far, I have not seen much in the way of reports on color changing in the Sierra. The long-term weather reports for Bishop still call for fairly warm weather over the next 10 days. A late year??

I have posted a sticky at the top for fall color, so feel free to report if you have any information.

Every report I have seen says no to minimal color so far.

Yes, late! I wasn't sure, so I looked back last week to a couple liquidamber images from just this week last year - in beautiful colour then - and this year, the same trees have not even begun to show colour yet.
I guess the very late rains and much cooler temps (except today - 105 here - augh!) really confused the leaf-painting elves.

I think it's just hard to tell judging how things look at lower elevations. I swa some trees in Santa Rosa, CA that were almost totally changed to yellow last week. I think those trees must be confued because it's still hitting 100 dgrees and not close to freezing at night here. I imagine it's getting close to freezing if not there up in Bishop Creek Canyon and similar areas. I just hope it starts pretty soon, and does something hopefully similar to last year. I have a trip to oregon planned for the last week of October, so I'm not looking forward to a tardy season of fall color!!!!!!!!!

I talked to a buddy who just got back from Truckee. He has a place up there and goes up all the time. He said there is no color at all. It is the strangest year he has ever seen. Never been this late since he has been going up. He lives in San Jose and the trees in San Jose are changing, despite the 100 degree weather they are having. Go figure.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

I'm seeing the same phenomena down here, just driving to breakfast this morning I saw almost complete color change in our street Maple trees, while not as hot here it hasn't be cold either ( Long Beach ) . Looking at the weather reports ( on Noaa) over the past week I zeroed in on North Lake and the low temps will break freezing this weekend. Which to my knowledge has not occurred yet. Perhaps this might start the sap down and trip the color change.

Last years color was a bit further along but not by much compared to yesterday's trip and it was almost one year to the day. Still another week or two I'd say for peak color for bishop canyon. Though it might depend on what that hurricane does off baja.

I know...very strange. The maple in the Santa Cruz mountains are all starting to change early as well.
