Late next week I’ll be in Steamboat for 2 days with my wife to celebrate our 14th anniversary . She says she's be game to watch a beautiful sunset or sunrise with me. I just have no idea where to go. Not familiar with the area at all. Looking for the Steamboat Iconic Fall Color shots. Let me know what's in store, I'm excited!
As always, thanks.

Right now our Steamboat area is still 95% green, but a week can make a considerable difference. No doubt though, that the fall colors are later than usual here. Unfortunately, my favorite spot---what we call Rainbow Ridge, on the Buffalo Pass road---about a mile or so beyond Dry Lake Campground, is closed for road construction. It's unclear if one could hike up there after 5pm and be there for sunset or if they might still be working. I intend to find out from the Forest Service.
Another great place to watch sunset is at one of the pullouts on Rabbit Ears Pass---with Lake Catamount below and the Flat Tops off in the distance. These are the close-in spots---if you want to drive some, then the Hahns Peak-Steamboat Lake area to the north and the Flat Tops to the south are terrific.
