Has anyone been to the Wakodhatchee Wetlands in Palm Beach County? I'm headed down to Florida in November and it's much much closer to where I'm staying than Viera. Thanks in advance.

Hi Luke. I haven't been to Wakodahatchee in a long time. That said, I think it is a great place to photograph birds. The boardwalk can be crowded making tripod use challenging. I prefer to handhold so I can lay down on the boardwalk to get as close to eye level as possible. It is definitely worth checking out early in your trip so you can decide for yourself.
YES - I go there regularly, when I'm in Florida visiting my father and stepmother. Wonderful place!
The # of people ARE a problem - go at sunrise, when most of the "older, walking-for-exercise" crowd is not up yet!
And sunset is also great, when all the herons, egrets, ibis, etc are coming into their roosts for the night. If there is a decent sunset, you can get them silhouetted.
Green Cay , nearby, is another excellent place. http://www.pbcgov.com/parks/locations/greencay.htm
Birds are everywhere in Florida - you'll have a hard time leaving. Keep your camera on the seat as you drive - seriously - you'll be pulling over to get shots often.
I've been three times now, always in December. It's a great place. I've found tripods are not a problem if you get there at sunrise. There will be plenty of photogs there. Green Cay is a nicer place but I've found the birds and photo ops better at Wako. Met Lance there a few years ago.
