Planning on spending a weekend in the Trout Lake area (never been)hopefully during peak fall color. Some time ago someone on NPN mentioned a creek running behind the hotel/motel where they were staying that had some excellent maples along its bank. Is anyone familiar with this place. Any other suggestions on conveniently located lodging and/or where to go for the best opportunities there? Anyone want to meet up?
Thanks.

Hi Bruce,

I drove through Trout Lake yesterday morning and noticed Kelly's Trout Creek Inn B&B on FR23 right next to the creek where the road crosses it on a bridge. This on the north side of town. Mount Adams Hideaway on WA-141 looks like it's also on the creek, and with what could be a great view of Mount Adams from the back yard.

Right now there is just the barest hint of fall color. A few vine maples along the highway beginning to turn, but that's about all.

Is Takhlakh Lake also in your plans? Fantastic view of Mount Adams over the lake from the campground. Another great view of the mountain from the top of Council Bluff. 1.5 mile hike up from Council Lake Campground to a view that stretches from Mount Hood to Mount Rainier, with Mount Adams practically in your face.

I've only camped in the area Bruce, so I'm not much help. Be sure to check out Elk Meadows on the west end of the lake (accessed here, zoom out to get oriented). There's a lot of good stuff along the Klickitat east of Glenwood too.
