Hi All,

Thought I'd make my second image post a little more arty and contentious. This is a black-headed gull (winter plumage) shot on my local estate. The bird is taking off in the shadow of a evergreen trees and is captured when the sun went in on a largely blue sky. I've enhanced the cool and green feeling by cooling the white-balance and dropping the shadow end of the curves to give the dark greens more punch. Love it or hate it - all comments very welcome!

Camera Model: Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II
Shutter speed: 1/160 sec
Aperture: 5.6
Mode: Av, AI Servo AF

I'm a sucker for 'arty' shots, so yes, it works well for me. I especially love the water patterns. :toast:

I realise the bluish hue is intentional but maybe would benefit from a little less saturation. Also, and it may be an optical illusion but does it need a tiny bit of cw rotation to level the water?

Not entirely convinced, I'd clone out the two OOF white areas upper left and right of the pic as these are more grey and I think are out of place in the contrasty scene.

It's always a pleasure to see these artistic type shots and a fine one it is at that.
Love the motion and dynamic action. The low angle is perfect, the pano crop works really well and the open beak is the icing on the cake.
If I had to find a nit it would be the colour of the bird, which is just a little bit too cyan tinted for my taste, just my preference but still an excellent capture. :toast:

Superb Artistic image. This certainly makes a change to the norm. I really like the water spray patterns. The cooling effect is great too. :toast: :toast:

Hi Everyone,

Thanks you so much for the feedback. I'm really glad to see a mix of opinion... especially as most are favourable

It has potential, just needs to go tighter and rotate to lose the slope...

The reflection of the bird adds nothing for me so I won't hesitate to crop it out to get closer.
