GOOD NEWS FOR BIRD PHOTOGRAPHERS!
After checking the Ridgefield NWR Websites UPDATE I was happy to see that the roadwork improvements have been completed and the River "S" Unit reopens today, wednesday Sep 28. They also mention the annual closing of the Kiwa trail which normally is on Oct 1, but since the 1st is over the weekend it will remain open this weekend and be closed for the season on monday (except for scheduled tours/walks during Birdfest Oct 8-9th.) CURRENT HOURS ARE 7AM - 7PM
Hope to see you there for the fall migration! Craig
Wonderful! Thanks for the news, Craig. Any chance for a group shoot, sometime? You are so familiar with Ridgefield, I for one would love to join you there...
Edit: MODERATOR ERROR! ( red, red face! ) I did NOT intend to commit Craig to lead an outing for us! Very wishful thinking on my part! ( slap to forehead! ) SO he is officially NOT committed to do that unless/until he gleefully volunteers.

Catherine, I will have to mull that over for a bit. Some days at the Refuge are productive with lots of variety and activity. On others, it can be quiet and you get to drink lots of coffee. The Ridgefield refuge also has visitor rules that except for a blind overlooking Rest Lake is, people must stay in their cars to keep wintering over species relatively undisturbed. That time is from Oct 1 thru May 1 and while some great photo-ops are possible thru car windows, we would have to work out communication between several cars depending on the interest.
Please let me think about your idea and possibly if the interest is there we may be able to plan something in early 2012.
Regards, Craig
