Yesterday I returned from a photographic trip. When I started viewing my bird pictures at 100% in raw shooter essentials I was really disapointed. almost 80% of the pictures had bad focus and movement.
I use a canos eos 20D + a 500mm IS lens + a 1.4TC and gitzo 1325 tripod with the sidekick.
What am I doing wrong? The shuter speeds ranged from 1/600 to 1/2000, IS mode in 1.
I have to lock the sideckik before shooting?
Is there any technique for large lenses?
Hi Pablo,
I've had a similar problem when I bought the 600 IS (two weeks ago ;-)). The lens was re-calibrated (for free) by a Canon Service Center, and now it works perfectly
Pablo, is this a recent problem, a new piece of equipment in the mix? If you've been shooting all this same gear and getting good results in the past, then I suspect the suggestion of a calibration issue is right on the money.
Hi Pablo
I went through this a few months ago with my 500 f4. After shooting successfully with it for some months I found I couldn't get a sharp image no matter what I did. After doing some tests to determine that the problem was a slight front focussing and not my technique I sent the lens and the camera body to Canon. Since that time all's been well. Don't be discouraged.

Sometimes my 500 and 20d combination hits perfectly and sometimes it doesn't. I'd hate to be without this equipment for much time. How long does Canon take to provide this calibration? And, if I get the lens calibrated, do they need both my 20D bodies too? And, then, would they have to make separate calibrations for my other lenses? And, if I get all this done, and then in the future, buy some upgraded version (not the 30D- but a real upgrade), will I need to re-calibrate all over again?
