I've wanted to get a unique shot of the dunes from behind some aspen on the Sangres for a while now. The other day I was scouting out a location, and I spotted this lone red aspen in a drainage overlooking the dunes. It looked like a fairly straight forward bushwack, but it turned out to be slighly painful with a bit of a scramble down a deep ravine to get to the trees. Here's one of the red aspen glowing as sun began to set--another (wide angle version) just posted on Landscape/ESS.

Here's a look to give you an idea of the terrain i was dealing with--pretty rugged! Im reasonably certain there are no other photos of the dunes from this location!

Definitely worth any bruises...very well done and a refreshing new perspective. Thank you for the effort.

I'll have to check that wide version out. That's what I was thinking when viewing #3. I like the colorful subject isolation but the cropped trees left me wanting more. Cool idea though Stan.

#1 is my favorite...even better than what you have at the 'landscape' forum.
Yeah, the last one is mighty fine (love the bursting color in the almost monochromatic landscape), but I'm left hangin', as well.

As usual Stan, these are great. #1 & #2 get my vote. Beautiful colors.

The red leaves in the first image really pop out. Great lighting.
