I drove the Flat Tops road from Yampa to the top of Ripple Pass yesterday and can report that there's at least a week left of abundant color. Particularly from the top of Dunkley Pass to the south side of Ripple, the leaves are reaching peak or in some cases still have quite a ways to go. This view is looking NE toward the Pyramid basin and Dunkley Pass.

Vaughn Lake looking south with a dusting of new snow on the Flat Tops.

On the north side of Ripple Pass, one of my favorite spots along the road.

Flat Tops road near the Pyramid Ranger Station. BTW, I didn't see one other photograper...nice to have this to myself.

Thanks Rod, I plan to head out there in a few days.
I know what you mean about exclusivity. I hiked up to Rainbow Ridge a few days ago and it was much better just me and the dog :)

I almost headed north instead of south. These are great, Rod! Might be on the agenda for next week.

I just got back from the S. Fork of the White River area last night. I can't compete with Rod's wonderful photos, but can vouch for the conditions. At least before the change in weather today. I did run across some smaller areas of blow off leaves, but there was plenty of green left as well as areas near peak. The fishing was also good.

Another nice thing about the flat tops this time if year is that many of the FS campgrounds remain open through much of Oct. So many other areas close campgrounds around the end of Sept. I was the only camper in my campground and ran into only one other hiker in three days of hiking.
And probably not a lot of other fishermen, eh Roger? That looks like pretty good eating, but I'm more of a catch and release guy on those rare occasions these days when I wet a line.

Rod, absolutely love every one of these! The first and last though are my fans. I like the winding road in the last one and the diagonal FG mountains with the colorful distant hills are beautiful.
