On the way back from Steamboat Springs last week I spotted a remarkable forest of aspen trees that boasted the red hue that all of us look for. I pulled over and hiked into the magical scene. I spent 3 hrs just shooting trees. My main focus was comp; color and lighting was a given. I also worked on technique. It's not easy locating tree comp that fits into the rule of thirds. I spent a lot of time just walking around holding my tripod with Live View on surveying the canopy of color. Shot most of these shots at a higher ISO to freeze the leaves, to reduce distant blur, in case I wanted to print big one day.
Tree leaves and web compression just don't mix well, forgive the unsharpened feel. Comments and Critique welcome.
It was great meeting you and Jack at the Bells and again at the Mill. I hope you got many more killer shots in the folllowing days!

Excellent!!!! The series is nice, but 1 and 3 take the cake for me. i can't decide which one like better though. I just love the comp showing a lot of the trunks and the low perspective.

What, no lofty summit? Who are you and what have you done with our friend Kane?!
Sweet grove. I like the little wisp of cloud in #2 to break up that cobalt sky, but I like the comp in #1 best.

Very nice! Like the angle in #1.

I'm pleased that you found some worthy pics in my neck of the woods! But no call to have a beer while you were here?

I like #'s 1-3 quite a bit. Especially like the 45° angle you chose with #1 rather than the usual straight up approach.
That works so well here with that particular grove of reds.
Theyre all nice, but my favs are 3&4. The blues are starting to get a bit heavy up top (CP?), that's something to watch especially if youre using a CP. Good set!
Stan, you know I don't own a cp! Actually, the sun was about 10:00 directly behind me in most of these shots. Couple that with Landscape Mode on the Mark II. I also had to adjust color tone in Raw to harness the reds.
Great color in all of them. Pretty contrasty, but with the light we have here, it's what you get. The contrast works very well in #4, and I think #3 is the best for me in this group. Well done!
