Hey folks, I'm coming down to the Portland area with my girlfriend this weekend. On Monday I was planning on heading up around Mt. Hood and environs since I've never been there. Any suggestions of specific places to go beside the obvious choice of Trillium Lake?
Also, what should I expect colorwise about then? Hoping to get some nice foliage shots if possible!
Looking forward to hearing your suggestions!

Trillium Lake and Lost Lake are the two most often seen spots for pictures of the mountain with a lake in the foreground, and both are well worth the visit. If you are in the mood for a hike, Ramona Falls is one of my favorites in that general region. It is a 7 mile round trip hike with only a little elevation change. The falls at the end are great and there are some views of Mt hood along the way. The My Hood views there aren't the best for photos, but it makes for a nice hike.
Thanks Scott. I've seen some great shots of Ramona Falls, looks like an awesome location! Don't know if my GF will be into 7 mile hike, but we'll see!

If you make it a loop trip to Mount Hood and include Hood River Valley and the Columbia Gorge, you're likely to find some decent fall color in the upper Hood River Valley, in particular along Hwy 35 just south of Parkdale. There are some western larch trees right where the highway enters the national forest, and possibly a good view of Mt. Hood over Hood River along that same stretch.
If you haven't been to Mount Hood before, and especially if you're going with your GF, be sure to go up to historic Timberline Lodge and have a beverage in front of the huge rock fireplace or in the bar with the view of the summit.
Thanks for the suggestions Greg. I was kind of planning a loop trip. My GF kind of wanted to stop at the Naked Winery in Hood River. Then we were planning to head up from there. I was hoping to get some nice larch shots this fall. Maybe I'll get my chance.
My GF has been up to Timberline Lodge before, she said it was very cool. I'm sure images of ''The Shining" will be going through my head!
