Mueller St. Park
I realize that this wont be as popular as dramatic shots of Capitol Peak or other western CO icons, but for me this shoot was a major break-through, because i was able to pull out a few good shots despite all the obstacles--like waking up at 4pm (after a graveyard shift), taking 2 minutes to eye the Woodland Park cams, then driving straight to Mueller (and getting nervous while the entrance station lady fumbled with my entrance fee--c'mon lady, i've only got 45 minutes til sunset!) Fortunately i had this shoot all planned in my head days beforehand, so everything went exactly as planned (well, except i didn't even want to waste time putting on boots, so after jogging/hiking a half mile or so in 10" of snow my feet were frozen...) I know that even a year ago, let alone 3 or five years ago, I would have come away with crappy photos in a situation like this, so to me it represents progress!
Here's a sampler: looking southeast at the Ramparts as sunset gets close.

2) Here's one looking west, check out the snow covered peaks way in the distance.

3) One just after sunset, looking towards Pikes Peak

4) I just love aspen and snow!

5) Another one looking west, some nice light as i slipped around on this hill.

6) finally, one last shot looking west as the sun set (and it got pretty darn cold!) I had the whole park to myself--it was sweet! Thanks for looking. :wavey:

It sure looks a lot different from when I was there last Tuesday! I thought about going back Monday or Tuesday, but I expected that the leaves would have almost all been gone after the storm. The leaves were already dropping last week when I was there.

Nice reward for your efforts. :toast:

Nice series, Stan -- I really like 1,2 & 5. Its nice when everything comes together.

Congratulations on the improvement! Gotta be a great feeling. Fine original work from yet another place I've never been.
My favorites are #'s 2 & 5.
The string of aspens in #2 really allow my eye to wander throughout and enjoy the beautiful scenery
#5 is simply awesome. The sweet light, tree arrangement (which I love!), deep snows and esp. the grasses in the foreground all combine to create a magnificent image. Very well done, Stan!
I expect to see #5 in the 'Landscape' gallery muy pronto.

Great set here, Stan. I'm glad that you were able to explore an area that is not frequently photographed. As I was driving home from a recent trip I noticed that there was some fantastic fall color in the mountains to the east of Westcliff. I would have liked to have had more time to explore the area but unfortunately I had to be at work the next day. Sometimes the unsung locations can provide some spectacular views as well.

As far as your photos #6 is my favorite with #1 and #4 coming in the next two spots. All are beautiful with great color and light.

Nice set of images, Stan. A couple of them, i.e # 4, look a bit over-processed on my monitor, not sure whether its from sharpening or what. I see it most in the colored leaves. I continue to be truly inspired by the growth in your photography that I have seen in just the past couple of years on here. Thanks for sharing!

Great set of images. Perseverance does pay off. #5 is one of my favorites.

These are all really nice, Stan. My favorite is #5. Outstanding! Who cares if the scenery isn't as dramatic as other areas. These are unique and show us (me) a place I'll likely never go. Great work! :toast:

#1 and especially #5 are spendid. You managed to make Mueller look spectacular, that's true talent. Since I like #5 way better than the rest, I'll recommend just a slight graduated nd filter look to the sky.

Very nice! #1, 2, and 6 for me. I really like how you make the aspen glow.

All are nailing it, and #5 is doing it with a very large hammer!

Others usually notice growth in us before we do ourselves and you seem to be just noticing what I've seen for some time.

Number 2 looks golden! Nice work Stan.

Nice collection. Would have say #2,#5 for me as well.

I cold sit and stare at #1 all day long (and be envious the whole time).

Stan! Great series. Someday you'll have to explain how you processed the aspens in these. I love them. They absolutely jump off my screen. I looked at them at work and at home both places they look almost 3D.

Very nice Stan. Like the angle of the light in #5.

Nice set! 1 and 5 really do it for me...

The earth shadow behind the clouds adds a lot to #3 to make it my favorite. Possibly crop some from the bottom so it is not so 50/50 ?
The light in #5 is rather nice.

#2,#5 and #6 are my favorites. Great set of images Stan. The light in #5 I really like!!
