Question from Ohio: I am planning a trip to Zion the first week of November and I am considering a short backpack sidetrip to Coyote Gulch. Can someone quesstimate when the fall color in lower Escalante/Coyote Gulch will peak? Is it generally the same as for Zion valley? Does it look like fall color in Zion will be later this year? I am considering moving the trip back a few days.
Thanks for your time.

Semi-answer from a former Ohioan: I think the first week of Nov. for Coyote Gulch would be fine. Anybody can feel free to confirm or correct me if I'm a little off. No report yet from me on the timing of Zion's color schedule. I hope everything works out for you!

Jeff is right, but it can vary year to year. Best to call the Escalante Field Office at (435) 826-5600 as the time approaches. They're friendly folks there. Hope you get a chance to visit Calf Creek Canyon while you're there.
