UPDATE 4-6-12 Got an e-mail from Nat Geo today! The number 6 shot in this series has been selected for inclusion in their Your Shot Readers Collection!!! After I send in the required forms they will include it in their stock photography website as well as for use by Nat Geos editors!!! Somebody pinch me!
We have been hanging out in Southwest Colorado a lot this fall. I was delighted to discover wild horses in one of the areas. We met up with a group of about 12-13 individuals last weekend, mares with this years foal crop. They were actually quite curious but this time I decided to stay in the car and shoot. I didn't want to freak them out. They were pretty relaxed as they milled around even grooming each other. I had the 300mm + 1.4 TC on my old 10D (for more reach) set up just in case we saw any wildlife and that is what I shot these with. Next time I will try shooting outside the car if their mood allows. Hope you enjoy.

Ha! You followed my tip and kept the tele on the camera. Nice work. Wild horses are one of the subjects on my photo bucket list. Thanks for sharing.

Cool series! #6 is absolutely superb. Hope you have plans for that one.
Were you in the Paradox Basin/Disappointment Valley area during the round-up?

Nice group of images Pam. I also like the pink background.
These are all nice, Pam, but #6 is my fave. I'm such a sucker for the little ones! I hope someday I'm lucky enough to run into some wild horses up in the Book Cliffs.

Thanks all! No plans yet for the little one but it is my fave as well. John, these were in the area of Hwy 159 south of San Luis.

Another vote for #6 with the soft lighting on the body and the mountains just peaking over the horizon.

Very cool, Pam. I almost drove over to San Luis 2 days ago, not even knowing about the horses. Had I known, I probably would have dropped by

Thanks again! BTW, if you are ever in the Fort Garland area at meal time, stop by the All Gon (not misspelled) restaurant. Food is soooooooooooo tasty! Had their lasagna for dinner on Saturday and it is seriously to DIE for. Who'd a thunk? Melts in your mouth and the perfect blend of all that makes lasagna great. Well worth straying from the diet for. Ate there three times in the last month. It's not so pretty on the outside, but it's what's inside that counts.

Love #1 and #6
I have seen that look in the eyes alot. I miss having horses. Bring back lots of memories.
You are dead on with the recommendation for the All Gon restaurant, Pam! the food is incredible for being in a small town like that! I ate there several times while working on the school in San Luis last year.
I really like #1 and #6. Very nice work. I never knew there were wild horses near or I would have tried to capture them!
