"The Big Year"

If you haven't heard, Mark Obmascik's fine book, "The Big Year," has been turned into a movie starring Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson. I watched it this evening. There are some changes from the book - the three lead characters have different names - and a few moments that jar an experienced birder, but overall, it is a fine effort. It's the first time I've enjoyed a movie starring Jack Black.

And it treats birding pretty respectfully. The Attu scenes are particularly good.

Recommended.

I just finished reading the book, which was a very enjoyable read, and am looking foward to seeing the movie. I see a lot of similarities between these obsessive birders and us crazy photographers.
