Cold Pahsimeroi Morning
Slightly bigger is much better!
f8, 1/8s, ISO 200

Here's one of my favorites from my time in Idaho this summer, taking before dawn on the last morning of calendar spring. This is a view up the East Fork of the Pahsimeroi to its headwaters in the Lost River Range. The big peak right of center is Leatherman Peak, Idaho's second-highest, and another 12-er, Mt. Church, is back in the clouds.

And here's a pano of the entire upper Pahsimeroi valley, including the state highpoint Mt. Borah on the right.

C&C always welcome if you see fit. And anyone who has Idaho shots, let's see some!

Very nice Jackson. I also like the pastel palette.

Thanks for posting this image of the Idaho Alps. This area is visited infrequently. The Mt Borah area is very unique geologically and botanically. I have a few images I'll prepare and post.

Great earth shadow sky and clouds over the very scenic valley. You had me looking at google earth and mapquest. How nice is Merriam Lake, if you have hiked to it?

I've not heard of the Idaho Alps before. And I've been to Idaho to kayak and photograph about 20 times over the past 35 years. Outstanding scenery and wilderness values are very evident in this awesome viewpoint!

This is awesome Jackson and the pan is beyond stunning. Are these aerial shots? Quite a nice perspective. Nice work.

Epic just about covers it! I'm definitely loving the latest Idaho additions here and makes me hate my ID image I posted earlier here

Thanks all!

Doug, I have not been to the lakes up there, but I think Merriam and Pass Lakes are very nice indeed. FYI, the Pahsimeroi roads have a bit of a reputation, and you want a very solid vehicle and good tires to venture back there. Pass Creek area to the south would be better if you don't have an SUV.

Don, "Idaho Alps" is rhetorical, these are the Lost River Range. The biggest peaks are around the Pahsimeroi valley, but the whole range is spectacular.

Dean, no aerials here, just took advantage of some big steep foothills.

Epic is right! I love the muted colors and the sheer ruggedness of this place, which you captured so well.
The panoramic image is top notch! Would love to see a large print of that one!

Such a beautiful capture and it has a very different look...velvety is a word that comes to mind. The pano is incredible too!
