Index card as" Laptop screen viewing perpendiculenforcer
When the card's corner points above horizontal the screen is tipped backwards resulting in a darkened image, encouraging mistaken attempt to brighten the image.

Thanks Dave, I'll be getting 3x5s tomorrow.

You do mean the cards should line up in relation to your eyes, correct? Once the card points above your eyes the screen will change. The screen should be flat to be flat to your field of view. I make sure my eyes are reflecting in the center of the screen when I set mine up.

When the card's corner appears to point below horizontal the screen is tilted too far foreword. The image appears too bright, eleiciting a mistaken effort to darken it.

Hi, Guy,
That's right. You explain it well!    And use of  your eyes' reflection will definitely work just as well, if the light behind the laptop screen illuminates your face brightly enough to see your reflection against the actively illuminated screen.  When the light behind my screen is that bright I get a headache and have learned to avoid bright light behind the screen...which eliminated the reflection of my eyes... and prompts me to use the index card "perpendiculindicator."

I've posted a second image showing the effect of a forward-tilted screen and the card's position. The next and last image (to be posted tomorrow) will illustrate the view perpendicular to the screen and the associated orientation of the reference edge of the card.

Thanks, Guy,  for your helpful comment.
