Honestly, I was much more interested in the GPS Receiver GP-E1 announcement...

The new GP-E1 gathers latitude, longitude, altitude as well as UTC time and includes an electronic compass that can properly indicate camera direction whether the EOS-1D X is held horizontally or vertically. Location information passed from the GP-E1 to the camera is then embedded into picture files as they're shot.

That is, until I read that it can only be used with the Canon EOS 1Dx... :frown:

Yeah, Gizmodo also talked about the 1Dx and how they played with a prototype. Sounds drool-worthy to me, but I probably won't get one until I can find somebody to buy it for me.

Wow, definitely drooling at this end! Might be time to sell my 5D and 1DsIII.

The Multi-exposure mode sounds interesting:

"The EOS-1D X is the first EOS Digital SLR to feature Multiple Exposure capability. The camera can combine up to nine individual images into a single composite image, with no need for post-processing in a computer. Four different compositing methods are provided for maximum creative control, including Additive, Average, Bright and Dark. Compositing results can be viewed in real time on the camera’s LCD monitor, and there is a one-step Undo command that allows photographers to delete an image and try again if desired. The EOS-1D X’s Multiple Exposure mode even allows photographers to specify a previously captured RAW image as the starting point for a new Multiple Exposure composite image."

Yeah, Adam - it sounds like in-camera HDR.

What struck me was the HDR function and finally GPS (hopefully for the next gen 5D?) !!

At least she will finally get a decent camera (I'm assuming you would give her the 5D2) instead of having to lug around that ancient 1Ds. :jump:

Or, a method of exposure fusion.

I've been holding out for a full frame camera with a top notch AF system (thats nearly affordable) because my 5D struggles with everything else I shoot except landscapes. Shooting hockey w/ a 5D was not as much fun. I am also really excited that they kept it at 18 mpx which seems just about right. Unless the 5D III has a much better AF system, I'll have to sell a kidney and get one of these babies.

Hey! The 1Ds is a fine, professional camera! And the only $8000.00 BRICK that I own!! :jump:

Hmnn. Well, I held on to a number of EOS lenses when I switched to Sony. The Contax N 24-86 and the 70-200/4L are consequently languishing in the closet, but I'm still happy with the A850. When I move back to a more urban area, though, and get back to shooting dance photography again, I'll probably rent one of these...

I missed the bit about the Multi-Exposure Mode. If it works well this could be a game changer. I wonder if it'll find it's way into the 5D3?

Well, looks like I better start saving for March. I will probably have to sell my 1D MIV and my 5D II to get it.

The specs look GREAT for sports, wildlife, weddings.
Also, the high quality 18 MP should be sufficient for many landscape/nature photographers.
So, as an all around camera, I do like the 1D X.

However, I still want to know the features, image quality and price of the next 5D or other high MP model.
I would prefer to pay for higher resolution rather than frame rate, complex AF and super high ISO.
Unfortunately it may be a year before there are any clear answers.

Great news for some of us....there should soon be a plethora of 5d II's on the market for cheap!
