Hopefully their is a Mac expert or two that can help with this.
I recently upgraded my Mac OS to Lion 10.7.2 and now when I post the small sized image on an NPN gallery, the image has a small blue "?" mark over the middle. I noticed it does not appear on the larger sized 1200px image and also noticed that in viewing other member postings many also show the mark, others do not.
I'm pretty sure this is a Mac Lion problem and hope you can help me fix it.
Thanks Craig
WELL AS THOUGHT IN MY LAST POSTING TODAY (BELOW,) I THOUGHT WE HAD A "FIX" BUT THE ONLY FIX I FOUND WAS IN NOT USING SAFARI AS A BROWSER. APPARENTLY I WAS USING FIREFOX EARLY THIS AM AND THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD COME UP WITH A FIX..... IT'S APPARENTLY HOW SAFARI AND MSN ARE NOT CAPABLE OF HANDLING THE LION OSX!
The smaller images you are viewing with NO question mark are not images that are hosted by NPN. Only images hosted on this site will show it if your MAC has the offensive problem. We had a thread going on this a while back...I think in June/July, but I searched and cannot find it. No one solved it as far as I know. Today with your post in Avian, I did another web search on it, and came up with nothing new. I'm wondering if Jim can help out on this? Sharon

Many others have had the same issue and it has been discussed here before around the release date of Lion. The same thing happens from the iPhone leading some people to speculate that it might involve the Flash application that isn't supported on the iPhone.
If I understand correctly, when you post an image into any of the NPN critique galleries the image gets coded as the background of a table cell with a transparent gif file placed "on top of" the image as the contents of the table cell. When a viewer tries to grab your image with a right-click all they end up with is the transparent gif. The NPN implementation of this "feature" is somehow incompatible with iOS for the iPhone and some/all installations of the Lion OS.
The large image does not get the gif overlay treatment so there is no ? showing on it.
If someone links to their small image on another host there is no transparent gif involved, either, and no ? appears.
The only remedy I can suggest is getting someone to change the way NPN handles this.

Thanks for your responses and input. I don't know if NPN can initiate any sort of fix with this Apple "Lion" conflict but I have forwarded this thread and asked him if he would look into it.
Happy shooting everyone, Craig
NOTE- I sent an email in to "MacWorld" advising of this problem and requested they have a Mac tech. please look into a possible fix and Lion software update. 10/24/11

a very Big "THANK YOU," to who ever was able to find a solution to this problem and fix it. I had asked Jim E. to please have a look and then yesterday sent an email to Apple';s MacWorld and asked a tech. columnist there to see if they could take a look.
All I know is, today . . . . the blue question marks on the smaller posted thumbs are Gone!
Thanks to all you other Mac users for your interest and suggestions! Craig
