The first is really an interesting take on the Tower of Babel. It says night, but the color is quite good.

James I like that first one as well. It really does look like night, unlike so many of these images I see.

"I'm just trying something new.". Me too, James. (see my last post) Keep it up! It's good to challenge ourselves with new things.
This image looks way too dark on my calibrated monitor, but looks really nice on my overly bright, uncalibrated monitor. The light on the rock formation looks really nice, and I like the colors and the wispy cloud, but the tree is just in the way. But, the unforgivable sin is dismembering Orion.
I too like #1 James. The red of the rock is pretty striking, and even though it's not a color I normally associate with night shots, it seems very believable to me. A recognizable constellation is a definite bonus. I do wonder if it might not work better as a 4x5 crop.

That first shot is just sweet--love it!! 2d aint shabby either. And your small copyright is very refreshing.
