Hi all I need urgent help with a problem, have any of you seen a problem like this before.
this is the second time this has happened in a row.
With different Memory cards, of different types.
its happended with an SD card, and a compact Flash card.
it doesnt affect every picture for example with the red deer, the picture before and after this image are fine.
See attached pictures.
I am not sure if its my camera, or something todo with lightroom corrupting the RAW files.
Canon 1D4
Sandisk memory cards extreme SD and compact flash .8GB
Lightroom 3 (3.3) 64 bit
Cheers

Hi Mark,
You don't state if your using a card reader or direct from the camera, but I've seen corruption like this with card readers going dodgy or even intermittent USB cables. If it were me, I'd check the whole transfer chain, I'd even eliminate your computer by using another one if possible.
Hope this is of some use,
Paul.

Yes! I've had it often. Happens in camera raw. No idea why, although more common if I shoot at 10fps. Affects different cards. The only saving grace is that they can be read by other raw converters, in my case canon's own software, DPP.

Just a thought, are you reviewing images before they are fully written to the card, ie whilst the red LED light is flashing showing card write process is still in in progress - this can corrupt images

I agree with Mike above. I.ve had this happen when transferring stuff and trying to do other things at the same time- like looking at a file before they are all downloaded.

thanks for the replies, looks like its my PC at home.
Took the memory card to work with the same reader, installed LR3 trial. and adobe bridge images open up fine, no corruption.
They must be getting corrupted while transfering to my PC.
Done HW diagnostics and all seems ok, so i am going to re-install the OS and apps this evening.
Will let you know how i get on. !!
Cheers

yup fixed, re-installed the OS, and now the images are fine, the images i orginally copied are still corrupted.
so i copied again from the CF card, and they are all fine.
What puzzles me is why it was always the same images that got corrupted. !!
Hmm, I'd probably also run a chkdsk on your hard drives overnight to flush out and bad sectors - you might have a disk with a bad bit which the images got stuffed onto.
