Deep in the Middle Fork
Let's keep the Idaho images rolling! This one's from this summer on the Middle Fork of the Salmon, down where the canyon starts getting really deep and rugged. Our river camp is visible almost dead center.

Idaho's a big and diverse state, so like other western states it's hard to claim seriously that a certain kind of scene is "quintessential Idaho." But when I think of being up there, this is where my mind goes: scruffy crags, sage, talus and ponderosas beside a whitewater river.

Jackson,
Great shot of the mighty Salmon River. Your right, Idaho is hard to tie to a single theme. Two things one must enjoy, sage and Basalt. Both are beautiful.

Jackson, this brought back memories of the first of 2 floats almost 15 years ago. Is that Shelf Camp above Loon Crrek and the nice hotsprings? On our trip, the area river left at the mouth of Loon was on fire.

I really like the layers in this, Jackson. And the shading of each of those layers. The sky in the background also adds to the nice depth here. And the processing looks good. Very well done.

Keep those Idaho images coming!

Great shot of one of my favorite rivers!

Very nice, Jackson. This is a trip I really want to make and you have inspired me once again. I agree with Morris and his comments on the layers. Well done.

Beautiful scene Jackson! Great comp and you handled the differing light/shadow layers very well.

Thanks everyone! Doug, this is Driftwood camp, about 20 miles or so downstream of Big Loon, but above Big Creek and the Impassible Canyon proper.

Rod, if you end up seriously considering a Middle Fork trip, please feel free to drop me a line. I'm more than happy to offer photo and river advice and answer question, and if you like the look of my outfit I may be able to score you some level of discount.
