I made it out to the gorge yesterday to check out the fall color. The colors are nearing peak and will probably be excellent for another week or so.
On the way out to the gorge, we stopped at Cape Horn for sunrise. The sunrise light was absolutely incredible and is probably some of the best light I've ever had in the gorge.

All C&C are always appreciated. Thanks for taking a look.

My kind of shot! This is fantastic Scott. What amazing color you captured. Was Hood's shadow visible at all (I assume it would be to the right of this photo)? The one photo of a sunrise I have from here has a strong V-shaped shadow from Hood.

Thanks for the feedback John. I didn't notice the V shaped shadow of Hood. What time of year was it when you saw it?
Also I wanted to get your opinion on the shadow detail in this image. I purposely left the land dark because I liked the contrast with the sky, but I'm wondering if it is too dark? I've got enough detail there to lighten it a bit, but I'm wondering what everyone thinks.

Gorgeous atmospherics and color, Scott. And a simple but effective comp, with the river guiding the eye through the scene. Regarding the shadow detail, since it looks like there's some fall color over there, I'd be tempted to lighten it up and see what impact it has. Can't say for certain it would improve an already strong image, but it's certainly worth an experiment. If it were all green over there, I'd say just let it ride as is.
Lovely. I saw the makings of this from the Glenn Jackson Bridge on my way to work. Had to keep driving, unfortunately. I would be tempted to try the gradient filter in LR and lighten from from the lower left corner. It's worth a shot. Also, you would see this later, I'm sure, but the two little fir leads just to the left of your name should be removed or cropped out. My preference would be for spot removal because I like how the circle of grass is fully enclosed by trees at the bottom of the frame.

I think I'd leave the shadows as is, or brighten them only slightly. This is one of those shots that the bright white background doesn't help. I went back and checked the date of that old photo, and it was Dec. 9.
