We have lost our connection to Qube Visual which is where we have always held our annual party before. The party is usually 1 or two weeks before the superbowl on a saturday evening from about 4-10PM (or so).
If ANY of you have ideas, or suggestions on locations where we can hold the annual party please let us know. It has been a terrific tradition and is always a great way to end the previous season and begin a new one. Seeing old friends and meeting new ones is great but the real highlight is the annual 'white elephant print grab (c)'.
Ideally a location in Denver would be ideal since we have people from Fort Collins to Pueblo usually attending. But that is definitely not a hard and fast rule.
Lets find a new venue and get this party rolling.

I thought there was one particular member who was NOT allowed to change jobs!
Qube really spoiled us, and will be hard to replace.
Sorry, I have a great low cost facility in mind, unfortunately alcohol is not permitted, so that's out.

I've got lots of connections for great places in Moab that allow alcohol.
Funny timing, as I was actually going to post about this today!
Yup, after 15+ years at Qube, it was time to move on. Besides leaving some co-workers who are good friends, the loss of the Shindig space was a big bummer for me. Can't believe the first one was over seven years ago!
My new workplace really isn't photo related (Qube barely was the last few years), but it does have a ton of space. Since I've only been there a bit over a month, I'm not sure I'm comfortable asking if we can use the space yet, but I'll play it by ear. The good thing is that my direct boss shoots wildlife stuff, so that's a good sign! I'll just have to see what other folks come up with, and if I think I can make it work.
If we do find another cool place, I'm available to help, and give any advice I can from my years of doing it. Sure would hate to see this great tradition go by the wayside!

I might know of a location in Wheat Ridge, though I'm not sure if it's big enough. I'll look into it but it may be a couple weeks before I know anything.

I've got a place in San Diego!

Brent, we just need your new boss to join this forum, then we have a new place!! I'll check and see if my new office is available for this.

There's a Grange Hall near Franktown but I think it's about $550 a night. Not sure if we have a budget but it might be a solution if we can't find a suitable free facility.
Just so that we don't double our efforts, what places have the moderators already checked into?

I just talked to Tim at Duraplaq. He has the space and would definitely consider it. He said to have one of you guys get in touch with him. It's kind of far north...Longmont..... but looks like it would be a potential spot.

I found out that the community center in Wheat Ridge that wouldn't have cost anything no longer lets outside groups use it.
If a free place can't be found, here's a couple other options:
The Wheat Ridge Grange Hall can probably be rented affordably, though I don't know the cost.

I'm waiting for a reply back from the folks at the Denver Flagship REI store (guy in charge out of office today), they have a great meeting area. I seem to recall that it was looked into in the past, and I don't think we could bring alcohol, and not sure about food. I sure like to have a beer or two at the Shindig, but don't think it would be a deal breaker. I'll let you all know what I hear, hopefully soon.

How many people do we need to accommodate approximately?
Posted by Brent Doerzman on November 8, 2011 at 11:45 PM
Scott,I think the last few years we've averaged about 50-60.

I just got an email from Tony L. about a place but they have a fee..$400 for the large room. Don't know if we could raise enough money for it. If we had 60 people show up it would be just under $7.00 per person plus a food and drink donation or bring something to share. From what I am seeing, it would seem that any commercial facility is gonna want a rental fee..This place allows us to bring alcohol as long as we don't sell it. Thoughts?? I'd have to check availability dates too.

Any updates on this? Have we contacted Tim at Duraplaq or heard back from REI? What about one of the photo related businesses such as Denver Pro Photo or Englewood Camera? If there's nothing in the works I can contact Englewood Camera this weekend and see if there's any interest on their part. Might be a good business decision to trade some of their space for one evening in exchange for future business and the good will of RMNP shooters.

We have several locations that we are investigating. We'll post an update when we've secured the location and date.
One thing you can count on... We will have an annual shindig!
The suggestions here have been very helpful. Please feel free to drop me a note if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks for your suggestions and help everyone. Please watch for forum for an announcement on the date/location of the Shindig soon! In the meantime, I'm going to close this topic. If you have any further ideas, you may contact Scott using the links in his post directly above. Thanks again RMNPers!

Veronica has said I can have the party here in the 'Voninski Lab' but it would be a bit of a squeeze.

If a free place can't be found, here's a couple other options:
The Baerresen Ballroom at the Auraria Campus can be rented for about $250-$300 for a half day. http://www.tivoli.org/eventservices/baerresen.html
The Wheat Ridge Grange Hall can probably be rented affordably, though I don't know the cost.
