It started snowing in southern NH around 3:30PM and started to stick to the roads around 4:30 PM. Any other snow reports? Now the weather guesssers are saying our area could get 10 inches of the heavy white stuff!

In Westchester County, New York must be at least 6 inches here. Was predicted snow mixed with rain but so far just snow. Leaves still on most of the trees, so there are a lot of limbs breaking and trees coming down because of the wet snow.

(Hope all are avoiding the tree limbs. I have siblings in NY and CT.)

Yup, 78 degrees here and out walking in the leaves this afternoon.
Sorry... but I do hope you all in the NE don't have too tough a time with the weather. It's early to be so severe - hope this doesn't bode bad news for the winter.

No power, no cable, no heat.... Staying with my sister-in-law in Brunswick ME where at least they have power and heat but no cable or Internet. At least I have 3G on my iPhone. It is amazing how crazy we (at least, I do) all get without Internet and cable.

I agree that it's awfully easy for people to become almost dependent on these things, and that means you're less independent. We don't get cell phone coverage unless we drive to the top of the hill, and have pitifully slow dial-up, but that just makes it all that much easier to do without them when those things fail completely.
I work with a bunch of people who MUST have their cell phones on ALL THE TIME! When they do not get a signal ( a pretty common occurence in Alaska) they get downright stressed out.

Spent the last two days in Brunswick Maine with my sister-in-law. Found out today from a co-worker who lives 2 blocks away in Atkinson that power was restored. Also sounds like internet is working as well from tweets on atkinsonweather.com. Found that site to be quite helpful in finding out what was going on in my local area. With all the trees in our area, power outages are normal when unexpected storms or ice storms occur. Pines are resilient, hardwoods brittle and fragile especially if leaves still present when snow or ice hits. Might need to get a generator for future events.
