Zion Outtakes
Finally finished the last of my 3 days in Zion shots. Was good to run into Mark, Kane and Jimmy last week, can't wait to see their stuff! I've got a lot of shots that i like, but not sure they'll ever be printed, so here's a bunch i could use some feedback on (a simple thumbs up or down will do  )
Looking forward to some more snow in a couple days :jump:
#1: The Good ol' Narrows (very uncrowded for a weekend with awesome weather--although the rest of the park was hopping!)

3) The Maples were just blazing, even if the valley floor was 80% green!

10) Might as well make it an even '10': More maples! The maples made the trip worthwhile, i could forgive the bluebird skies! Thats all for now (more in flora and landscape...) :wavey:

Stan, Preference to 1&9. Maybe crop off the rock and light streaks in the LLC of #1, and the top bright rocks in #9. The sunlit rock in 7 is a peculiar yellow.

#1,3,6,8,10! Those stand out for me. The others are good, but these are great. I think I could include #7 if the strange yellow was fixed. Can't wait to see more! Especially the maples. Oh, and print #1 HUGE! :toast:

If these are indeed outtakes, then I don't feel bad giving a thumbs up solely to #'s 1 & 3.
It's such a pleasure to see some work from more of the 'off the well worn path' locations in Zion.
Jimmy G. is such good company, especially when you ply him with a few beers!

Stan, I'm not finding much "there" there in these shots. I don't think they rise to your standards, either individually or as a collection. I can't really find anything in any shot that grabs me, many seem compositionally deficient, lacking a flow that would lead a viewer to take interest in them. More like grab shots.

I was going to write something then I just read Todds post, he says it all.

I like #2 the best Stan followed by #1 with a crop up on the foreground. Great group of shots!

Thanks guys!
Todd--thanks for the honesty, thats the feedback im looking for here. Most of these are 'grab shots' cause thats what i was doing, grabbing as much as i could in my short trip there. On the other hand, theres a couple, like #8 for example, that i spent a lot of time composing (its a 4 image stitch, huge) and i like it, but im biased and i wasn't sure how it would go over with the 'crowd'. Im not surprised no one has even mentioned that shot  I also think #1 is pretty good, but ive got better ones from the Narrows from this trip. (like the ones ill be posting soon enough) :wavey:

I like most of #9, except the highlighted top 10%, I would crop that out, but that's just me. I also like the v-shaped background of #8, but I'm not digging the trail.

Well, I respect Todd's opinions. but I'm with John regarding #1 and #3.

Couldn't have said it better.

Stan, from what I see, you should have slowed down a bit. 'Grabbing' as many shots as you can in such an amazing place as Zion definitely does it a major injustice, IMO. Interestingly enough, your #8 shot given the composition, has this unusual funnel effect, which is pleasing to some degree. I'm sure someone else won't like it, and someone will love it. The nature of a photo critic. So here goes the noise, vibration and harshness...

So a simple thumbs up or thumbs down will do? Is that really what you're going for? What good is posting these shots if that's the only feedback you want? Don't you think that's really dumbing down your efforts? Am I the only one that feel this way? Sorry, I had to get that out. Again most of you know how I am about this stuff. Just trying to get you guys to think a little more about your photography.... Also, consider your wording 'outtakes' - when I think of an 'outtake', I think of the deleted scenes that never made it into the final cut - you've sort of relegated your images to exactly that - be what it is, I suppose you were too excited and needed to share. Call me crazy.
